Enger Textbezug

Rowe argues that unpaid internships only shift their costs to others (cf. ll. 16–20). This is convincing for large firms that could easily pay, but less so for small charities, which may only be able to offer a placement at all if it is unpaid.

Übung 3: ein möglicher Absatz

Collins asks young people to support local journalism „with five dollars or with five hours of your time“ (ll. 43–44). The appeal is well chosen because it is small: it lets readers help without becoming journalists themselves. However, she overlooks that many young people will not pay for news they believe they can find for free, so a request for money alone will reach few of them. Beyond the text, schools could take up the second half of her appeal, for example by letting students write for a local news site as part of a project, which would give them both skills and a reason to care about what happens in their town.

T: der erste Satz · P: The appeal is well chosen … und However, she overlooks … · E: Beyond the text, …

  • Nur zustimmen: „I agree with Collins that we should all support local news.“ Zustimmung ist noch keine Prüfung.
